Bummer – it looks like we’ll have to wait until 2024 for Apple’s best MacBooks yet.
Apple insider “Ming-Chi Kuo” recently tweeted that Apple likely won’t release any new MacBook models this year. This means the highly anticipated M3 chip won’t debut in 2023 as many had hoped.
For those unfamiliar, the M3 chip is the third generation of Apple’s own custom silicon used in Macs since ditching Intel in 2020. So far, these Apple-designed chips have delivered mind-blowing performance and efficiency across the Mac lineup. The M3 promises to be the biggest update yet, with estimates of 15% faster speeds at the same power draw, or 30% less power usage at the same speeds versus the current M2 chip.
Earlier this summer, rumors were swirling about Apple launching M3-powered MacBooks in October. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman predicted the first M3 Macs could be a new iMac, 13-inch MacBook Air, and 13-inch MacBook Pro. But Kuo’s recent intel suggests no new MacBook models are coming this year after all.
Gurman now says Apple may release an iPad Air 6 via press release in October rather than at an event. With no event beyond the iPhone 15 series, it’s unlikely we’ll see any new Mac – laptop or desktop – until 2024.
Bummer. The M3 chip has us all eager for the next generation of MacBooks. But perfection takes time, so we’ll try to patiently wait until 2024 for Apple to drop its best MacBooks yet. The delay is a bit of a setback, but the payoff will be worth it.
